2025 Board Elections

In anticipation of the upcoming and third Alberta Sport Leadership AGM scheduled for June 24, 2025 at 1 pm MTN, we are seeking nominations for election to our Board of Directors. We have four positions to fill on our nine-person Board. Three positions for three years each are being elected as a result of the fulfillment of initial terms with the Alberta Sport Leadership Association as mandated by our bylaws regarding 1/3 of the original Board. One additional position for two years will be elected to complete a term which is open as a result of a resignation.

Overview

The Alberta Sport Leadership Association (ASLA) is seeking nominations to the Board of Directors for the Association. The main purpose of the ASLA is to “unite and advance Alberta’s sport sector”. The areas of focus include Coordination and Support of the Sport Sector; Advocacy to those outside the sector; and Sport Sector Engagement and Communication. We are currently seeking nominations for four Board of Directors positions from individuals who are passionate about the Sport Sector and who will help lead, develop and implement the ASLA’s operational and strategic plans.

The four (4) nominees must be willing to serve voluntarily on the Board for a minimum of three years: June 24, 2025 - 2028 AGM (the fourth position is for an initial period of 2 years ending at the 2027 AGM).

We are seeking nominees who:

  • are innovative, creative, and can offer new perspectives;

  • ideally possess skills in one or more of the following areas: Human Resources; Technology, Legal, Finance/Accounting, Non-profit Sector, Strategic Planning, Marketing, Sponsorship and Fund Raising, Government Relations;

  • are strong advocates of the values and benefits of Sport from the grass root level through to elite performance;

  • have familiarity with the key issues facing Sport in the Province including but limited to Sport Funding, Safe Sport Strategy, and Fairness and Safety in Sport legislation; and,

  • contribute, challenge and will help shape the future agenda of Sport in Alberta.

Skills required for ASLA Board

Our organization is transitioning from a startup phase where we operated with the efforts of only volunteer board members to incorporating paid staff into our operations and having the Board move toward being a governance board. We still need our board members to balance good board governance with some operations and administration skills.

We are looking for visionary, strategic and critical thinkers who are well networked in the province and ideally have previous board-related experience. We are also looking for persons who have strong administration, operations and ideally marketing and/or technology skills and could be available to support or pitch in on some of the operational tasks required to move the organization forward.

Timelines/Nomination Process

  • Expression of Interest/Nominations received by May 23, 2025

  • Review of Applications and Interviews as determined by the Nominations Committee. Any Interviews would be in the date range of June 1 – 8, 2025

  • Nomination Slate circulated to Sport Community by mid-June, 2025

  • Presentation of the recommended nominations at the Annual General Meeting planned for June 24, 2025
