Sport Benefits All Albertans
We are working to develop a path forward that builds on our collective purpose and vision for sport in Alberta.
Sport is an important contributor to fostering healthy individuals and vibrant communities.
Future of Sport & Alberta
The Future of Sport in Canada Commission has spoken. Here's what it means for sport in Alberta, and why ASLA is ready.
On March 24, 2026, Commissioner Lise Maisonneuve and her Special Advisors released Transforming Sport in Canada: Time for Action â a landmark 952-page report that examined every level of Canadian sport after 591 meetings and consultations with over 1,000 individuals, including 175 victims and survivors of maltreatment.
The report's central finding is direct: Canada's sport system is broken. Fragmented, under-resourced, inconsistently governed, and too often unsafe. At ASLA, we read this report not as a critique of what we are, but as a confirmation of what we must be. Check out our most recent blog to read more.
Making Strides
We are pleased to announce a three-year pilot project to support the establishment of a Safe and Welcoming Sport Program for Alberta. Funding is being provided by Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Branch (SPAR).
Our focus is to bring together and represent a collective voice for sport in Alberta.
We are working transparently and collaboratively with key contributors at local, provincial, and national levels to bring a sector-led leadership model to and for the Alberta organized sport community.
All Albertans, regardless of their participation, benefit from sport and active recreation opportunities. Participation has proven to strengthen community connections and pride, provide economic impact to communities, and have a positive impact on youth education and reduction in youth anti-social behaviour.
