Alberta Sport Leadership Association (ASLA), in partnership with the Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation (SPAR) Branch, is hosting a full-day, in-person, working forum for Provincial Sport Organizations (PSOs).
Session Objectives
As part of our continued commitment to strengthening Safe Sport practices across Alberta, this full-day engagement session is designed to introduce and operationalize key components of the province’s maltreatment complaints intake and resolution framework. The session will focus on how the Alberta Safe Sport Complaints Management (ABSSCM) Discipline and Dispute Resolution Policy and the new Alberta Universal Code of Conduct (AB UCC) work in tandem—and how they are integrated within the broader Safe Sport system.
1. Implementation of the Third-Party Mechanism (ITPM)
Led by Alias-Solutions, this portion of the session will walk participants through the step-by-step intake and review process for maltreatment complaints. The focus will be on operational effectiveness—ensuring the ITPM functions as intended and meets the needs of athletes, coaches, officials, and sport participants throughout Alberta.
2. Strengthening Policy Alignment and Organizational Support for PSOs
In partnership with Blue Rock Law, this segment will explore the legal and procedural aspects of complaint management. A detailed review of PSO policies and procedures will be conducted, along with tailored recommendations to help PSOs align their internal documents with the ITPM and ABSSCM requirements. This approach aims to promote consistency, legal compliance, and survivor-centered practices across the provincial sport sector.
