ASLA Launches 2026–2028 Strategic Plan
The Alberta Sport Leadership Association (ASLA) is proud to release its 2026–2028 Strategic Plan, charting the organization's direction for the next two years and marking a shift from building foundations to delivering focused impact for Alberta's sport system.
The new plan was shaped directly by the sector it serves. Its priorities and actions draw on feedback gathered through PSO and MSO roundtables in early 2026 and sport council roundtables in March 2026. The consistent message from that engagement was clear: Alberta's sport organizations aren't asking ASLA to do more — they're asking ASLA to do the right things exceptionally well.
Three Strategic Priorities
The plan centers on three priorities that will guide ASLA's work through 2028.
Sport Integrity positions ASLA as the system steward for consistent, Alberta-centric sport integrity. This means advancing full adoption of the Alberta Sport Safe Complaint Mechanism (ABSSCM), with a target of 90%+ PSO/MSO participation by Fall 2026, alongside new education, training, and governance resources that make Safe Sport work at the club level.
Promote & Advocate establishes ASLA as the collective voice for sport in Alberta. This includes building a coordinated government relations strategy ahead of provincial budget cycles and the 2027 election, launching a proactive communications strategy, and introducing a quarterly sector update to keep members informed and connected.
System Alignment sees ASLA act as the neutral convener for Alberta sport — reducing fragmentation through a standing PSO/MSO forum, a provincial Facilities Roundtable with municipalities, published system maps and role-clarity frameworks, and a new annual Alberta Sport Sector Pulse report. The plan also commits to exploring the feasibility of an Alberta Sport Organization Certification Program, modelled on similar frameworks in other provinces.
Building a Sustainable Foundation
Since launching its first plan in 2024 as a start-up organization, ASLA has strengthened its governance, established the ABSSCM as one of the most advanced Safe Sport infrastructures in Canada, and built credibility across the province's sport system. This next chapter builds on that foundation.
